Observations
Can other types of bread be used for Tamago Sando?
Traditionally, Tamago Sando is made with Japanese sandwich bread (Shokupan), which is very soft and light. However, you can use classic sandwich bread or crustless sliced bread if you can't find Japanese bread.
Can I add extra ingredients to Tamago Sando?
Yes, you can add ingredients like cucumber slices, lettuce, or even fried chicken!
If you want to try the tamago sando hack with chicken, we recommand adding Japanse Karaage, with chicken marinated with soy sauce, garlic, ginger and pepper. You'll also love it with spicy Karaage! It will add crunch and so much flavors into your sando ;-)
Where can I find Japanese mayonnaise?
Japanese mayonnaise, like the Kewpie brand, is creamier and slightly sweeter than traditional mayonnaise. You can find it in Japanese or Asian grocery stores. Alternatively, you can use traditional mayonnaise mixed with a little rice vinegar and a pinch of sugar.
How to store Tamago Sando?
Store Tamago Sando in an airtight container in the fridge for maximum 24 hours. To prevent the bread from becoming soggy, place a piece of paper towel between the sandwiches and the lid of the container.
