Tomato nuvvula pachadi (tomato sesame seeds chutney)

- 3 tomatoes, medium sized, chop fine
- 6-7 small Thai chillies
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1/8 cup peanuts (optional)
- 2 tablespoons tamarind pulp (extract)
- 1/2 teaspoon jeera
- 1 tablespoon dhaniya (coriander seeds)
- 1 teaspoon oil
- salt to taste

For tadka/popu:
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
- 1/2 teaspoon jeera
- pinch of haldi
- few curry leaves


Step 1

In a skillet, dry roast sesame seeds, peanuts, dhaniya and jeera one after the other.

Step 2

In a kadai, heat oil. Add chopped tomato and cook until everything becomes mushy. Cool everything.

Step 3

Put everything in a blender or mixie, add tamarind pulp and salt. Grind to a fine paste.

Step 4

For tadka, heat oil in a skillet, do the popu in the given order, immediately add to the ground mixture.

Step 5

Serve warm with rice/dosa/idly.
