Chinese dinner at Royal Garden

By My Savoury Life (Visit website)

I’m so glad that I did not have to go to work in my store today, instead get to travel to Plymouth to promote sexual health, we were supposed to be working from 10am – 2pm, but because we were so quick in handing out the chlamydia information and testing kits, we called it a day at 12pm!!

Of course I did not go back to Torquay straight after, My friends and I took the opportunity to shop!! Great eh, no need to work, but get paid for 8 hours, and I get to claim for my travel expenses too and get to do some shopping! Great company to work for- BOOTS.

Went to shop for heels and a push-up bra  :P , I needed it to secure my tube dress for a gala dinner in March. Havn’t found a a suitable heels though, even after 4 hours of shopping.Arghh. After that went to the chinese store to get some ingredients for STEAMBOAT on friday night!! woohoo.  Before heading back to Torquay, we went for a chinese meal at Royal Garden. Ordered some dim sum as starter – beef ball in some vinegarish sauce, pork and prawn wrapped in bean curd (zhuk kuen), and black pepper beef stomach (ngao tou)

I wanted to have the ‘Fuk Kin Fried Rice’ so much after I had it few weeks ago. Been craving for it since then. So of course we ordered that, and some other dim sum. Our dishes were served quite fast, but the rice looked so different!! Totally different colour and its not what I had the other time. So we spoke to the head chef, he said he is new, that is his way of cooking ‘Fuk Kin fried rice’. He was very polite, which is rare for chefs, not only apologized but also said that he will call another chef to cook it for us again, but we were not convinced they knew how to cook it the way we wanted. So we did told the chef, it is ok to tell us you have no idea how to cook that, but let us choose another dish to order. He was very confident and said the other chef will be able to do it for you. SO thats fine, better still i thought since I miss it so much. This time it was wrong again!!! OMG, the whole situation was so awkward!

At the end we ordered noodles instead, SO dissapointed. And the noodle was not great too! We ordered vermicelli soup with sliced duck and preserved vegetables, but you know what? There was no sliced duck but they gave us Char siu instead!! We almost drop dead there! But this time , we just accepted it, and gave up trying.

So we will not come back to this restaurant again. This just shows how important for a restaurant to have great chef,or else they’d lose some regular customer and business will go down!! Too bad for them really.
