Boil dhal with 2 cups of water till half cooked.
Separate dhal from the water and keep both aside.
Heat ghee and when heated, saute onion, ginger and bay leaf till brown and fragrant.
Add fried ingredients, washed rice and salt into the rice cooker.
Pour in the reserved liquid (the water dhal was boil in) plus more water as needed (it should be 3 cups of water in total).
Do not stir and let the rice be cooked.
When done, gently stir in garam masala.
Garnish with fried onions and coriander leaves before serving.
