The Food Duo Reads...The Joy of Vegan Baking

By The Food Duo (Visit website)

Who reads a cookbook? Well, we do! Of course, it's not the only genre we read, but we do have a vast collection of cookbooks. For the purpose of our lovely blog, we're going to focus on cookbooks and any title that focuses on the delights of cookery.

As mentioned, we have a pretty extensive cookbook collection. It runs the gamut from baking to foodie crafts. We're always adding to it. In fact, our most recent addition is The Joy of Vegan Baking: The Compassionate Cooks' Traditional Treats and Sinful Sweets by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau.

There are so many wonderful vegan baking books on the market. However, few bring you back to your mother or grandmother's kitchen like this one. Classic and simple with a vegan twist is the best way to put it.

We liked this book because the author doesn't intimidate you. Think of it as a guiding hand. The instructions are detailed yet clear. There is a lot of information on vegan resources and product recommendations. Nothing too intricate for the novice. Nothing too boring for the expert.

You don't have to go on a master hunt to find key ingredients. The majority of them you'll find right in your local grocery store. If there are one or two you can't find, they'll be at a local specialty shop or you can use substitutes. Remember, mom and grandma always found a way.

If you're someone who doesn't like being in the kitchen, the photos alone will definitely grab your attention enough to pick this up for your favorite baker. Cookies, cakes and pies. Oh my! With biscuits to boot!

So far, Mac's made the lemon bars and chocolate mousse. Both were delicious. Both were easy and didn't  take much time. We're looking forward to trying more recipes like naan bread, pastry cream and chai tea.

This book may not be your mom or grandma's cookbook, but it sure comes close.
