Shrimp Chutney Powder
It was my friend, who took my notice to the availability of dry shrimp in the near by Asian groceries....I couldn't resist getting one packet and trying this chutney powder since then...It was very clean that I didn't have to do any further cleaning, which was one more reason to go for it....

Now before you attempt this, please bear in mind that it has such an obnoxious smell that it may not be welcomed by everyone...So if you really can stand the smell , them please go ahead with the recipe....

This chutney powder is a good accompaniment with rice.....

Here goes the recipe...

Ingredients
Dry Shrimp                           - 100 gm packet  [approx 1  1 /2 cups]
Shredded Coconut               - 1  1/2 cups [ same as shrimp ]
Curry leaves                         - 1/2 cup       [ You can add more if you like]
Onion                                     - 1 [ 5-6 Nos of Shallots will do better, which I'm deprived of]
Tamarind                              - 1 small ball [ as shown]
Dried Red chillies                 - 8 Nos [ Adjust as per your spice level]
Asafoetida                             - 1 pinch
Salt                                         - 1 tsp
Preparation
Roast the shrimp in a flat pan without any oil for about 5-8 mins till its color starts changing to brownish. Keep it aside to cool down.
Meanwhile roast the shredded coconut along with curry leaves, red chillies and sliced onion till the color changes to brownish. It takes about 10 mins.
Just before switching off the heat, add asafoetida powder and tamarind [ made into small pieces ] and roast for another 2 mins.
Now switch off the flame and allow this to cool down completely.
Take a clean and dry mixer and  grind the shrimp along with  the coconut mixture adding salt as required. [The coarseness to which you want the powder depends on your preference.]
Store in a clean air tight container and use as required.

Dont forget to use a clean and dry spoon every time you enjoy this chutney.

You can keep it refrigerated too.

Isn't that a nice way of adding a bit of fishy smell on those veggie days for a fish loving Mallu family...??
