Thinly slice the onion, tomato, and pickles. Cut the burger buns in half and grill the inner sides on a hot pan. Set aside.
Cook the patties, pressing down slightly. Cook to your desired doneness (rare, medium, well done).
Flip the patties and place the cheese slices on top to melt. If you prefer well-done patties, wait a bit before adding the cheese to prevent it from melting too much and spilling into the pan.
Spread some mustard on the bottom half of the bun. Add ketchup and place a slice of onion on top.
Place the cooked patty on top, followed by a slice of tomato and some pickles.
Finish with 2 clean lettuce leaves and place the top half of the bun on it. Use a toothpick to hold the burger together.
And there you have it, your cheeseburger is ready!
