Ingredients
To decorate:
Materials
- bowl, baking tray, oven
Preparation
Grate the butter (it will be easier to incorporate). Mix the flour, baking powder, and 80g of sugar. Combine the egg and milk.
Add the cold grated butter (you can also add it cut into small cubes). Incorporate it well with your fingers until you obtain a uniformly crumbly mixture.
Gradually add the egg + milk mixture while mixing until you have a homogeneous dough. Set aside the rest of the mixture for step 6.
At this point, you can add your desired filling. We chose to add chocolate chips. Mix everything well.
If the dough is too difficult to work with, refrigerate it for 15 minutes. Divide the dough into two and form two balls. Flatten the dough balls and cut them into 6.
Place the scones on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush with the remaining egg + milk mixture. Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 15-17 minutes.
And there you have it, your chocolate chip scones are ready! You can drizzle them with melted chocolate for extra indulgence.
Observations
Can you freeze scones?
Yes, you can freeze the scones as soon as the dough is ready or after they are baked.
Can you reduce the amount of butter?
You can reduce the amount of butter in this recipe by half if you wish. You can also replace it with margarine.
Can you replace the toppings?
You can replace chocolate chips with dried fruits or even citrus zests.
Round scones or triangle scones?
We made triangle scones, but feel free to make them round. You can use a cookie cutter or form balls that you will flatten later.
