Trader Joe?s Cranberry Walnut & Gorgonzola Salad Dressing

I could eat a salad every night with Trader Joe’s Cranberry, Walnut & Gorgonzola Salad Dressing.

It’ll make you want a second helping of salad… it’s that good.

Reasons why I like this dressing — besides that it tastes good:

My kids like it.

It’s healthier than many other salad dressings available.

Nutrition facts per 2 tbsp. (although I only use about 1 tbsp. because it’s so flavorful): calories = 70, total fat = 4.5 grams, total carbohydrate = 7 grams, sodium = 140 mg. If you use half the serving size like I do (1 tbsp.) it provides just 35 calories, 2 grams of fat, 3.5 grams of carbohydrate, and 70 mg sodium. I don’t usually worry about calories, fat, and carbs as long as I am eating healthy — but I do watch the calories, fat, sugar, sodium, and other ingredients of products you add to foods, like dressings and sauces.

It has a fairly simple ingredient list. I do like to stick with simple ingredients and if my boys would eat salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that would be great. But they won’t eat lettuce with just olive oil and vinegar on it — and so for now I’ll stick with what works, as long as it’s healthy.

Ingredient List: Water, cranberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, canola oil, corn syrup (if I could leave out one ingredient it would be the corn syrup), gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, salt, garlic, modified corn starch, black pepper, xanthan gum, arabic gum.

The only changes I would make to this dressing are: 1. to make it organic and 2. to take out the corn syrup since it already contains sugar. However, it is nice to know that products sold under the Trader Joe’s private label contain no artificial flavors, artificial colors, or preservatives; no genetically modified ingredients (GMO?s); no MSG; and no added trans fats.

To make it fun for my kids we set up a little salad bar so they can pick their favorite toppings. This particular night we set out sugar-plum tomatoes, garbanzo beans, hummus, parmesan + asiago cheese, and organic tofu.

The rectangular-shaped chunks are Trader Joe’s organic baked tofu, savory flavor.

I'll give this recipe a try. I feel the exact way about this dressing! I ate salad everyday. I have not shopped at Trader Joe's since this was discontinued. I check every November to see if its back. It was my traditional item to bring at family Thanksgiving.
