Try Something Different with Pork - Teriyaki Pork Steaks

By A Glug of Oil.... (Visit website)

Liven up some nice pork loin steaks with just a few ingredients.  Not that there's anything at all wrong with simple pan-fried pork, but just for a change why not try this?
Of course you can buy Teriyaki marinade ready made in a jar from your local supermarket - but this, I promise will taste far, far better.

Serves 4 depending on the size of your pork steaks.

You will need:
4 nice pork loin steaks with just a little fat left around the one edge.
and the mixed together in a bowl to make the marinade:
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 and a half tablespoons light soy sauce
1/2 a tablespoon of dark soy sauce
2 good tablespoons runny honey
1/2 a tablespoon of Sake (Japanese rice wine)
1/2 a tablespoon of Japanese Mirin (sweet fermented rice liquor)
2 cloves of garlic - finely chopped
a small knob of fresh ginger - finely chopped (to make about 1 teaspoon)
a few grinds of black pepper
2 spring onions - finely chopped
**You will also need the juice of half a lime but do not add it to the mixture

Once the above ingredients are in a bowl, put the pork into a large strong plastic food bag and tip the mixture into the bag.
Move the pork about to coat evenly. Seal the bag and pop it into the fridge for at least 3 hours or most of the day.
Remove from the fridge 20 minutes before you are going to cook and add the **lime juice.
When you're ready to cook remove the pork from the bag but keep the marinade for basting.
Heat up a non stick griddle pan and cook for about 4 to 6 minutes each side depending on the thickness of the pork - you can baste as you cook with the reserved marinade.   Obviously don't keep the marinade - discard what you didn't use at the time of cooking.  Serve with whatever you fancy.
