Pain d’epices, an old classic recipe to explore french gastronomy. The texture is almost like a cake, so it is perfect for a toast in the morning or as an appetizer. Comforting, sweet and fragrant, it is a must!

  • French spice cake - Preparation step 1In a bowl combine: ground cinnamon, ginger, clove and pinch of salt.
  • French spice cake - Preparation step 2In a saucepan combine milk + butter + honey. Cook and stir over low heat until everything is dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • French spice cake - Preparation step 3In a large bowl, whisk baking powder + flour + brown sugar and add the spice mix. Stir until just combined.
  • French spice cake - Preparation step 4In the middle, make a hole. Pour the milk mixture into it. Stir well.
  • French spice cake - Preparation step 5Add the candied orange peel. Transfer to a greased loaf pan. Bake 30 min 180ºC or a toothpick inserted into the centers comes out clean.
