Plum clafoutis - Szilvás clafoutis

By  Cookingstar (Visit website)

Magyar verzió lejjebb

Autumn is apparently about cooking and blogging. I could go into why I haven't been here for more than half a year, But I'd rather not :) It's enough that I am back at least for now. The great foodie God must be working in misterious ways as there always seems to be a new stimulus dragging me back in the blogging sphere. This week there were two. First of all my blog was chosen to be one of the 5 random daily picks on Foodieblogrol which generated quite a few visitors and resulted in a few comments, so I decided it was time I uploaded something. I know it sounds a bit loaded but still when I abandon my readers for a while it is similar to the feeling when you forget to water your plants before going on holiday... You can't really do anything about it, but the thought keeps bugging you regardless of how hard you try to forget about it for the sake of having a good time.

Reason number two. Just got back from the movies where i saw Julie and Julia, great film, really inspirational. Meryl Streep is brilliant as ever, her acting truly portrays Julia Child. I also found the Julie/Julia blog online, Gosh, it is so easy to forget how spoilt we are here with all this Web 2,0 technology. That blog is like ancient drawings in caves, so difficult to get to them and read them, it is amazing how much this form of the Internet media has developed. I also managed to get hold of the actual Julia Child cookbook thanks to the bliss of the Internet (I am sure it would a near mission impossible to try to get an actual copy of it here in Hungary, unless i tried Amazon. I just hate waiting :)) I already peeked into it and I have to say it is really thorough. It even touches upon topics like how humidity and the actual quality of the flour can produce different amounts in grams when measured in cups. It also has a handy formula for coversion between Celsius and Farenheit. By the way, does anyone know what the idea is behind Farenheit? Celsius, I understand, given the fact that it takes one of the most essential materials on Earth - WATER - looks at the temperature when it changes state and calls it zero and 100. just to make people's life easier. if however we want to convert temperature from Farenheit to Celsius we have to multiply with the number of our cousins, substract our dog's age (in dog years) and divide it with our mum's lucky number. (Kidding, nowadays you can just use google and type in 100 c in f and it will tell you that it is exactly 212 F - Nightmare)

Anyways... back to food. This year autumn is not as nice as we have been used to in the past couple of years. It has been cold and rainy it even snowed in the mountains last week. Pretty nasty weather for mid-October, eh? On a positive note, people (i.e. myself) tend to spend more time in the kitchen when it is so disgusting outside. On the other hand people start craving more dessert. for some reason. Baking is easy, as we have lots of lovely ingreadients abundantly, apples pears, grapes, plums, just to mention a few. This clafoutis are great to use up any leftover fruits from the fridge. This time my plums. And it feels so light, so innocent, so harmless, that you don't feel guilty after a second or God forbid, third helping. Not to mention when making a new batch :)

Plum clafoutis

ingredients

70 dkg plum stoned and quartered
3 eggs
2,5 dl milk
8 dkg flour
16 dkg sugar
cinnamon
8 dkg butter

Preheat the oven to 180 C. Butter a cake or clafoutis mold and place all the plum in it, and arrange them evenly then dust with cinnamon.

Melt the butter then mix with all the other ingredients until it comes together. It will be a very similar substance to that of pancakes. Pour it over the plums and place in the oven for 45 mins. Best served lukewarm

70 dkg szilva, kimagozva, negyedelve
3 tojás
2,5 dl tej
8 dkg liszt
16 dkg cukor
fahéj
8 dkg vaj
