Blanch Chinese sausages, remove casing, cut into disks. Seasoned minced pork with pepper and soy sauce.
Heat sesame oil in a pot and brown sausages. Remove and set aside. With oil still in pot, add minced garlic, sauté till fragrant.
Add cubed taro and five-spice powder, stir fry. Add seasoned minced pork. Stir to break up minced pork. Add rice, browned sausages, and salt.
Mix ingredients well. At this point, the entire content of the pot can be transferred to a rice cooker. Add water and cook rice as usual in the rice cooker.
If not using rice cooker, add water to pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer till all water is absorbed (about 10 minutes).
Turn heat down to the lowest setting, leave pot on for another 10 minutes. Turn off heat, remove pot. Rice is done!
Fluff rice using a pair of chopsticks or a spatula. Dish some onto a plate and sprinkle with garnish.
