- Blanch Chinese sausages, remove casing, cut into disks. Seasoned minced pork with pepper and soy sauce.
- Heat sesame oil in a pot and brown sausages. Remove and set aside. With oil still in pot, add minced garlic, sauté till fragrant.
- Add cubed taro and five-spice powder, stir fry. Add seasoned minced pork. Stir to break up minced pork. Add rice, browned sausages, and salt.
- Mix ingredients well. At this point, the entire content of the pot can be transferred to a rice cooker. Add water and cook rice as usual in the rice cooker.
- If not using rice cooker, add water to pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer till all water is absorbed (about 10 minutes).
- Turn heat down to the lowest setting, leave pot on for another 10 minutes. Turn off heat, remove pot. Rice is done!
- Fluff rice using a pair of chopsticks or a spatula. Dish some onto a plate and sprinkle with garnish.
