In a saucepan, combine the milk and sugar. Stir and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low.
Let it cook for 40 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
After this time, the mixture will have reduced by half and will take on a more golden color.
Keep in mind that it will thicken a bit more as it cools. To store it, pour it into a sterilized airtight container. Enjoy it by the spoonful, as a dessert, or as a topping for ice cream :)
Observations
* With these quantities, you will get approximately 190 gr of condensed milk.
* To obtain the amount sold in supermarkets (396 gr), you need to use double (1 liter of milk and 200 gr of sugar).
* It can be stored for about 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator.
