Cabbage soya chunks fried rice

2 cups cooked rice / leftover rice

1 cup cabbage - cut into thin strips

half cup of soya chunks - Soak into water for about 20 minutes

1/4 cup green peas

1 big onion - cut into thin slices

4 green chilies - finely chopped

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

3-4 curry leaves

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

pinch of asafoetida

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

2 tsp lime juice

3 tsp oil

salt to taste

chopped cilantro


  • Heat up oil in pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chilies, curry leaves and let them crackle. Add pinch of asafoetida and chopped onion. Saute till onion becomes translucent. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder and saute for few seconds.
  • Now add cabbage and salt to taste. Saute for a minutes and add soaked soya chunks to it. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and lime juice. Cover the pan and let it cook on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes. Keep stirring in between.
  • Finally add cooked rice and mix well. Add frozen green peas, chopped cilantro and let rice simmer on low heat for about 3-4 minutes. Serve hot with raita or pickle.
