Green Gram / Pacha payaru-1 cup

Onion-1 chopped

Tomato-2 chopped

Coriander powder / Malli podi-1 tblspn

Red Chilli powder -1tsp

Turmeric powder / Manjal podi-1 tsp

Garam masala powder-1 tsp

Cumin seeds / Jeerakam-1 tsp

Ghee-1 tblspn

Oil-1 tsp

Salt to taste

Sugar -1 tsp

Coriander leaves/Cilantro for garnishing


  • Pressure cook dal till completely cooked...If you press it with your fingers it should get mashed...

    Heat oil and ghee in a kadai..Crackle some cumin seeds..

    Add in onions and cook till golden..

    Add in all spice powders and mix well..

    Throw in the tomatoes and cook till mushy..Add required amount of water and bring that to boil..

    Add in the cooked dal and mix well..

    Season with salt and sugar...Simmer this for 10 mins..

    Garnish with cilantro and serve with roti or rice..
