2 cups Bottlegourd

1/2 cup Moongdal

1/4 cup Masoor dal

1 no Onion

1 no Tomato

2 nos Green chillies

1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon Garam masala powder

1 teaspoon Mustard seeds

Few curry leaves



1 tablespoon Coriander seeds

1 teaspoon Peppercorns

1 teaspoon Cumin seeds

2 nos Dry red chillies

2 tablespoons Grated coconut

2 teaspoons Anardana powder

1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida powder


  • Dry roast all the ingredients in simmer and grind as fine powder.
  • Meanwhile take the washed moongdal, masoor dal, chopped bottlegourd pieces, chopped onions.
  • Chopped tomatoes, slit opened green chillies in a pressure cooker with enough water and turmeric powder.
  • Cook upto 3 whistles and put off the stove, once the steam get released add enough grounded spice powder,salt,garam masala and cook in simmer for few minutes.
  • Finally lets splutters the mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and add immediately the tempered spices to the cooking dals.
