21 super-easy lazy recipes for nights when you absolutely don't feel like cooking (no-fuss ideas)
There are days when even chopping an onion seems like an Olympic feat!
You open the fridge, look at the ingredients, and close it again. You open the cupboard, hoping a meal will just magically appear. And in the end, you’re torn between ordering in, having a cheese sandwich, or snacking on whatever’s around while watching a show :)
Good news: that’s exactly what “lazy recipes” are for. No need to spend an hour in the kitchen, no need to pull out all the pots and pans, no need to make a sauce that simmers for ages.
We’re talking about quick, simple, comforting recipes that leave behind minimal dishes: toast, wraps, one-pot pasta, microwave meals, mug cakes, quick bowls… In short, everything we love when we want to eat well without complicating our evening.
Toast: the crispy version of laziness
When you don't feel like cooking, toast is often the best solution. A slice of toast, a tasty topping, a little seasoning… and your meal is already starting to look like something.
What we love is that it works with whatever’s left in the fridge. Avocado, egg, cream cheese, cucumber, salmon, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, honey, walnuts… Just choose a creamy base, a flavor-packed ingredient, and a fresh or crunchy touch.
Our Petitchef tip: Toast the bread well before topping it. It’s the little detail that keeps the toast from getting soggy and instantly makes it more indulgent ;)
Wraps: perfect when you want a quick meal
A wrap is kind of like a lazy meal that thinks it’s a real lunch.
You take a tortilla, add a sauce or a creamy base, some raw veggies, a protein, a little cheese if you want… roll it up, and it’s ready. No complicated plating, no cooking required, no fuss.
It’s also a great way to use up leftovers: a little chicken, eggs, hummus, bell peppers, arugula, a few tomatoes… You can put just about anything in a wrap, and that’s exactly what makes it so convenient.
A quick tip: don’t put too much filling in, or it won’t close. Speaking from experience :-)
One-pot pasta: the magic of a single pot
One-pot pasta dishes are a lifesaver on lazy nights. The idea is simple: just put the pasta, ingredients, and water or broth in a single pot, and let everything cook together.
The result: the pasta soaks up the flavors, the sauce practically makes itself, and best of all… there’s way less dishes to wash. For that alone, we’re all for it :)
It’s perfect when you want a hot meal without having to break out three pans and a colander. Salmon, broccoli, spinach, goat cheese, chicken… the combinations can be very simple, but the result is always creamy and comforting.
Quick pasta: because it always comes in handy
Even if you’re not making a true one-pot meal, pasta is always a safe bet when you’re feeling unmotivated. It cooks quickly, goes well with almost anything, and makes it feel like a real meal in less time than it takes to stand in front of the fridge, unsure of what to make.
A tuna sauce, a ham cream sauce, a splash of lemon, cherry tomatoes, pesto… No need to overcomplicate things. The secret is to save a little of the pasta cooking water to thicken the sauce. Yes, even lazy recipes have their little chef’s trick ;)
The result is a simple, warm, hearty dish and honestly, much more satisfying than a bag of crackers.
The microwave: often underrated!
People often use it just to reheat food, when it can actually save a meal or dessert in just a few minutes.
Steamed potatoes, salmon, chocolate cake, quick flan, mug cake…the microwave is perfect when you want something quick with very little cleanup.
Our tip: Always keep an eye on the cooking, especially for desserts. In the blink of an eye, a moist cake can become a little too dry. It’s better to cook in small increments and adjust as needed.
And for a lazy dinner, microwave-steamed potatoes with cream cheese, an egg, a salad, or leftover vegetables; it’s simple but very effective.
Bowls: when you want to make a “pretty” dish without too much effort
A bowl is the perfect meal when you want something fresh, colorful, and easy to put together.
Start with a base: rice, couscous, quinoa, salad, noodles, potatoes…Then add whatever you have on hand: vegetables, eggs, salmon, avocado, chickpeas, cheese, seeds, and sauce.
The big advantage is that you can keep it very simple while still creating a plate that looks appetizing. Even leftover rice can turn into a pretty bowl with a little avocado, cucumber, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and an egg.
It’s a bit of a lazy meal, sure… but served in a bowl, so it’s bound to go down better ;)
Croque-monsieurs and hot sandwiches, for when you're craving comfort food
When you need a quick, hot, and comforting meal, the croque-monsieur never lets you down.
Bread, cheese, a filling, a few minutes in a skillet, the oven, or the Air Fryer… and you’ve got a simple dish that’s instantly satisfying. Serve it with a green salad on the side, and you can even pretend you planned it all along :)
The same goes for hot sandwiches and paninis. They let you use up leftovers from the fridge without feeling like you’re eating leftovers. A little tuna, tomato, cheese, ham, grilled vegetables… and presto, it becomes a real meal.
So, what's for dinner tonight?
Ultimately, “lazy” recipes aren’t “cheap” recipes. They’re just smart recipes: few ingredients, few dishes to wash, and little time but still delicious enough to treat yourself.
Toast, wraps, quick pasta, one-pot meals, microwave meals, bowls, or croque-monsieurs… there’s a solution for everyone, depending on how much energy you have at the moment.
And most importantly, keep a few staples on hand: bread, tortillas, pasta, eggs, tuna, cream cheese, some vegetables, pesto, or a good sauce. With those, even on nights when you’re really too lazy to cook, you can still end up with something truly delicious on your plate.
Now that you know everything, all that’s left is to pick a side: Team Toast, Team One-Pot, or Team Microwave? Around here, it mostly depends on how many dishes are already in the sink ;)
